The Story Behind The British Chippy
Since 1915 the Hodgkinson family have been committed to serving the finest Fish & Chips. First in England and now here in Canada. If you are curious about what makes The British Chippy different, please read our story. The Hodgkinsons: Gary and his parents
Gary and Simone Hodgkinson emigrated to Calgary (from Manchester) in 2001. They have a long family history in the Fish & Chip business, as Gary’s Great Grandparents opened their first Fish & Chip Shop in Wigan, England in 1915. The business has been in Gary’s family ever since and now he is keeping the tradition alive by doing it here in Calgary.
When Gary and Simone emigrated to Calgary they missed traditional British Style Fish & Chips (and mushy peas). The longing for good ole fashioned Fish & Chips led them to take a leap of faith in 2009 and move into the restaurant business.
Following the family traditions and using their Grandmother’s recipes and having done training with the UK Fish Fryers Federation and spent time in a busy fish & chip shop in England Gary is excited to recreate British Fish & Chips in Calgary Canada.
Gary and Simone also have over 30 years experience in Fitness, Health and Nutrition. They are highly respected Personal Trainers, Pilates Teachers and Fitness Instructors. Simone is also a Yoga Teacher, Group Fitness Director for Spa lady Calgary and regular on the Big Breakfast TV show.
With a passion for healthy lifestyles Gary and Simone take the tradition of Homemade Fish & Chips and add a modern day twist with their Organic Potatoes, Wild Caught Fish and Non GMO Oil.
